New Year’s resolutions catch a bad rep but we think they’re pretty awesome! You get to align yourself with new goals and have all year to achieve them. Plus, these photo-focused resolutions have nothing to do with working out. ;)
1. Stay organized
It’s easy to start off the year organized, but a whole different ball game to stay that way all year. Start with your workspace, then move to your files on your computer. Finish with your equipment, camera bag, and finally your product samples.
To stay on track, don’t try to tackle all of this in one day. Set aside time using a calendar, a daily planner, or a detailed to-do list.
2. Make a creative strategy plan
Plan out your year! Set goals for yourself (big and small) but more importantly set goals that align with your strategy. If you want to photograph 15 weddings this year, set a goal to create an intake process that streamlines your client onboarding.
If you want to grow your social media platforms, set S.M.A.R.T (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely) goals that focus on each platform. Highlight your talent, and provide a unique voice!
3. Photograph somewhere new
Check that place off your bucket list you have been dying to visit! If you don’t see big travel plans in 2021, explore in your own backyard. There is beauty everywhere, you just have to find it!
4. Try a new style of photography
Make a commitment to your camera to try new things this year! If you’re a nighttime photography lover, try your hand at underwater photography. It may become your new favorite shooting style!
5. Commit to a photo project
We all get a creative block sometimes! Work through that and try a photo project that can get you through any slump. (Check out this post for project ideas!)
6. Take a risk
Try, fail, and try again! There is so much opportunity but it is up to you to seize it! Take a risk with your photography! Host a photography walk, submit your photo to a contest, or attend a tradeshow!
What are your photo resolutions this year? We would love to hear about them!
