Listening to Photography Podcast

Our Top 5 Podcasts for Portrait Photographers

Whether you're editing a portrait session or plowing through emails in your inbox, a good podcast can be your best friend. Not only do they help make the time pass quicker, but they can also help you grow as a photographer.

Check out our list of our favorite podcasts for portrait photogs, and add your own recommendations in the comments below!

1. Portrait Session

Portrait Session is one of the newer podcasts from Improve Photography, and so far, we cannot get enough! None of the content from hosts Nick Page and Erica Kay is diluted with sales pitches or pretentious jargon. They're totally focused on sharing their tips for lighting, posing, running a small business, and more.

Their most recent episode, about "Bouncing back from a bad shoot," is so relatable, and like all of their 30 minute episodes so far, are empowering for portrait photographers of all experience levels.

2. Wedding Photographers Unite

Wedding Photographers Unite is not just an hour-long education in the artistic and technical challenges that come with creating beautiful wedding photos. It's an honest look (by two wedding photographers themselves) at what it really means to be a wedding photographer - for better or for worse. Hosts Andy Buscemi and Neal Urban have years of experience behind the lens, and with that experience comes LOTS of stories worth telling.

It's because of those very real stories that we think Wedding Photographers Unite is so binge-able. New wedding photographers will walk away from each episode feeling more prepared, and experienced wedding photographers will feel like they've just met their new best friends. A must-listen for photography business owners everywhere.

3. The SSP Podcast

Besides being one of our beloved Featured Photographers, Sam Stroud (of Sam Stroud Photography) is a master of content creation. His podcast is well-produced, and every episode is so different from the one before.

He brings exceptionally engaging (and really cool) guests on to the show while still infusing his own experience and his personality into each hour.

Some of our favorite topics are really out of the box, especially his segments on facing your professional fears, genuinely supporting other photographers, discovering your true self in your work.

4. Sprouting Photographer

If you have a specific topic you want to hear more about, whether it be editing, marketing, networking, priting, pricing, or just about any other aspect of a photography business owner's life, bookmark this page right now! Sprout Studio has gathered some of the most knowledgeable voices in the industry to create hundreds of well-produced podcasts for photographers.

Each of the Sprouting Photographer podcast episodes is well-organized by topic, and each one can be digested in 30 minutes or less.

5. Beginner Photography Podcast

We all want to learn how to make more money, be more efficient, and produce better photographs. What photographers NEED to hear, sometimes, is a little more subtle. Stories like how a new pro got over her fear of rejection when she started her business, and how a husband and wife team decided it was time to take their photography business full time are encouraging, informative, and truly a joy to listen to.

The Beginner Photography Podcast's hosts are super responsive to listener questions and do a really good job of interviewing diverse guests with different experiences. We can't wait to see what they'll come up with next!
