Photographing a major event or milestone is exciting but, there's a lot that can go wrong. With so many variables, there is much luck to be had when capturing a picture-perfect moment. Being in the right place at the right time, wedding decor missing, an unexpected storm, the list goes on. “This is one wedding that almost didn't happen thanks to Hurricane Hermine in September of 2016. I was booked to photograph Helen and Andrew Don's wedding in Sandbridge, Virginia and the weather forecast was dire. Helen and I have been colleagues and friends for years and she emailed me in a panic... could I possibly shoot her wedding the next day? Of course, I said yes!
I'll never know how she pulled it off but everyone- caterer, dj... everyone was able to move everything to that Sunday just as if that were the plan all along. And the weather was STUNNING... Just like Helen.”

The sun came out at the perfect moment and created this double rainbow lens flare at the corner of the image! It was the most beautiful little accident that the sun hit my lens at just the right angle to create two rainbows!"

“I was photographing landscapes in Sedona, Arizona on a stormy day with a dozen other photographers around me who all eventually packed up and left due to the bad weather. I decided to stick it out and a few minutes before sunset the sky briefly cleared with the sun perfectly illuminating the rocks which gave me one of my favorite photos!”

“I’ve spent a lot of time in orphanages and childcare institutions over the last 15 years. On one of my more recent trips to an orphanage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, I found myself standing in the baby room, looking out over a sea of cribs and thinking about how all these little souls are connected, even as they each lay apart in their own separate beds. I lifted my camera and, right at that same moment, one of the babies stretched out his foot - and the little one next to him instinctively reached for it. As I took this shot, it struck me just how much we all strive to connect with each other, regardless of our age, nature or current life experience.
It was definitely a lucky moment to be in the right place at the right time with the right gear - and a powerful experience for me, too.”

"I went to Patagonia for the mountains but now appreciated for so much more. On day two in the region, I went to Los Glaciares National Park. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest national park in Argentina. I visited the largest glacier in the park - Perito Merano Glacier. It was a magical day with moody clouds, dappled sunlight and a rainbow to seal the deal. Sometimes you are lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. What you can't get from looking at this image is the constant rumble and cracking sounds created by movement and glacier calving."
