Whether you're designing a gallery wall or making a statement with a single print, we've got the tips and tricks to make your walls shine. Let’s get started!

Wall Art Sizes
Understanding wall art sizes is essential when planning your decor. Standard sizes can vary depending on where you order your prints from, and different decor options like Metal Prints, Canvas Prints, or Framed Prints will have their own size ranges. For instance our smallest Metal Print size is 4x6" while our smallest Framed Print is 8x10". Keep in mind that Framed Prints can add extra inches to the overall size, so consider that when planning your layout.

How to choose the right size wall art for your home
Choosing the right wall art size to go above your bed, couch, or other furniture
If you’re filling a blank wall without furniture, follow these steps to ensure your art fits beautifully.
1. Measure the furniture’s width
For example your couch may be 84” wide, so if you're adding a single piece of wall decor behind your couch, this will give you an idea of how much length you have to work with on the wall.
For a quick rule of thumb for other sized furniture, here's a great chart:
Furniture |
Recommended Wall Art Width
|
Twin Bed | 22" - 30" |
Full Bed | 30" - 41" |
Queen Bed | 34" - 45" |
King Bed | 43" - 57" |
Fireplace |
Match the width of the fireplace opening
|
96” Sofa | 54" - 72" |
72” Sofa | 41" - 54" |
60” Table | 34" - 45" |
2. Find out the best wall art width for you
We like to use the Golden Rule (as laid out in the infographic below), which tells us that art should be 4/7 or 3/4 the width of the piece of furniture it is hanging above. Using the example of an 84" couch, you should aim for 47"- 63" wide wall art.
3. Find out the best wall art height for you
The second part of the Golden Rule states that the center of the piece should be 58" from the ground, which is standard for painting in an art gallery. It should also hang 6"-12" above the closest piece of furniture. Let's say our couch is 36" tall. Try this common calculation to estimate the right height of your wall art:
Calculation: (51 - *height of your furniture*) x 2 = Height of your Wall Art
(51 - 36) x 2 = 30"
4. Determine the most suitable size for your wall art based on your range
Using that calculation above, we'd be looking for a piece of art 47"-63" wide and around 30" tall. Referring to the Wall Art Size Chart above, that would give you sizes like 30" x 50" and 30" x 60". You can find these sizes in our show-stopping Acrylic Wall Decor!

Choosing the right wall art size for an empty wall
1. Measure the width of your empty wall
For example your wall may be 100” wide.
2. Calculate the optimal width of wall art for your empty wall
Your wall art's width should take up 60% - 75* of your wall's width. Using a 100" wide wall in this calculation, we can find your wall art width range:
Calculation: *wall width* x .65 (or .75) = range of art width
100 x .65 (or .75) = 60"-75" wide
3. Measure the height of your empty wall
Let's say your wall is a standard 96” tall.
4. Calculate the optimal height of wall art for your empty wall
If we want to stick with the first Golden Rule, we want to aim for the center of our wall art to be 58" from the ground. To get an idea of when might work well, you can, similarly to it's width calculation, multiply the height of your wall by .65.
Calculation: *wall height* x .65 = wall art height
96 x .65 = 62.4"
5. Determine the most suitable size wall art for your empty wall
Now you know you've got a space of 60"-75" wide and about 62" tall to work with. A 40"x50" Acrylic Print or two 30"x40" Canvas Prints would make a bold impact. Or imagine making a real statement with six 20"x20" Framed Prints for a dynamic gallery wall.
How can wall art sizes impact your home's interior?
While sizing guidelines offer a helpful starting point, wall art can be used creatively to enhance your home in unique ways. From making ceilings appear taller with vertical pieces to widening a space with horizontal art, thoughtful choices can transform a room’s atmosphere. However, it’s essential not to overwhelm your space — selecting art that complements each individual room is key. For personalized tips, check out the best wall decor for each room.
Use wall art sizes to enhance the feeling of a room
Different sizes of wall art can significantly influence a room's mood and atmosphere. Large wall art create a bold, dramatic focal point, adding a sense of sophistication and making a powerful statement. Medium-sized pieces are versatile, bringing balance and warmth to a space without overwhelming it.
Small wall art is perfect for adding subtle accents, creating a cozy and intimate feel, especially when arranged in a gallery wall. Combining different sizes can add depth and character, making your space feel more personalized and dynamic.
Take advantage of wall art sizes to create proportion
Choosing the right wall art size can significantly influence the look and feel of your space. Vertical pieces can add height and elegance, making ceilings appear taller, while horizontal artwork creates a sense of width, ideal for making smaller rooms feel more expansive. Large statement pieces act as bold focal points, drawing attention and anchoring a room’s design. On the other hand, smaller prints are perfect for filling in gaps or contributing to a personalized gallery wall. Thoughtfully mixing different sizes can bring balance, depth, and visual interest to your home.
Using the wall art as a point of focus
Wall art sizes can play a significant role in establishing focal points within your home. Oversized pieces make a bold statement, drawing attention and serving as a centerpiece in living rooms, dining areas, or large entryways. On the other hand, smaller, more discreet art can be used to fill empty spaces, add balance, or create a sense of warmth and comfort. Thoughtfully placed pieces can effortlessly make your room feel more homey.
Can’t choose one piece of wall art? Try creating a gallery wall!
Gallery walls offer a creative way to showcase a collection of smaller pieces, adding personality and visual interest to your space. By combining various prints, photos, and artwork, you can create a dynamic display that tells a story and complements your home’s style. Whether arranged symmetrically for a polished look or with an eclectic mix for a more relaxed vibe, gallery walls are a versatile decor choice.
