5 Organizations Using Photography to Make a Difference

This year, we’ve partnered with photographer and philanthropist Tamara Lackey to showcase photographers across the nation who are using their talents to give back to their communities.

If your New Year’s resolution is to get involved with a charity or you’re just looking for a good cause to support this Giving Tuesday, check out these 5 organizations who are making the world a better place, one photo at a time:

1. Beautiful Together

Combining her love for photography and helping children waiting for families, Tamara Lackey co-founded Beautiful Together with her husband, Steve. The organization works to tangibly improve the quality of life of children waiting for families worldwide.

Using photography and video as a catalyst for change, the all-volunteer organization shines a light on children living in extreme poverty, foster care, or orphanages across the globe.

2. The Giving Lens

The Giving Lens has a vision to see three passions come together for a better world: travel, photography, and giving back.

They do this by running one-of-a-kind international travel photography workshops, all of which are led by professional photographers. During the trip, they volunteer their time and talents with a local, grassroot nonprofit. They then share the images and the profits with the NGO, and their participants return home forever changed.

3. The Gold Hope Project

The Gold Hope Project is a group of photographers aiming to gift families battling a pediatric cancer diagnosis free portrait sessions for their little warriors.

Many families with ill children are emotionally, physically and financially strapped. Photographers who are part of The Gold Hope Project use their talents to take at least one worry off their shoulders and gift them something magical – the smiles of their children, forever frozen in time.

4. Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep trains, educates, and mobilizes professional-caliber photographers to provide beautiful heirloom portraits to families facing the untimely death of an infant.

They believe these images serve as an important step in the family's healing process by honoring the child's legacy. NILMDTS has over 1700 photographers working on their behalf in 40 countries worldwide.

5. The Poza Project

The Poza Project is a partnership with Exile International, a nonprofit organization that empowers children in war zones to become leaders for peace in Uganda and the DRC through holistic rehabilitation.

The project utilizes children’s art, creative collaboration, and film as a healing opportunity for these brave children to tell their own story of survival.

Do you know a photographer who uses their talents to make the world a better place? Nominate them for our Photographers with Heart contest today! The winning photographer receives a $500 print credit and a $1000 donation to the charity of their choice.

Nominations are now open and will close on November 24th.
