Family during holiday card photo shoot

What to Wear For Your Holiday Card Photo Shoot

The leaves are beginning to fall and the weather is turning just a tad bit colder – before you know it, the holiday season will be upon us! We know that Holiday Cards are on just about everyone’s holiday to-do list. Before you stress yourself out on what to wear to your photo shoot, try some of our easy to achieve options!

1.  Jewel Tones

Gone are the days that you need perfectly matching outfits for your family photos. Rather then having everyone look the same, opt for a a color palette that will photograph well together. Jewel tones are perfect for the holidays and they always photograph well. A green wrap dress for mom, navy for the boys, and mix in a patterned dress for any of the girls!

2. Keep it Neutral

If you are looking to shop your closets or easily stay in budget, opt for a neutral look! Not only is this timeless and classic but you likely have neutral sweaters, shirts, and dresses for your family in their wardrobes. This also photographs really well especially if your shoot is outside with the fall foliage!

3. Hues of Blue

Hues of blues are always a classic easy family photo option! They always photograph well and can be particularly easy to coordinate. The best part is you can always put someone in a denim shirt, or jeans and a neutral top and they will coordinate perfectly! Avoid tones that clash by laying out your outfit selects and snapping some pics on your own with your phone. Double check that you are liking how everything flows before you commit to using it in your shoot.

4. Pattern Play

Holiday card photos are the perfect place to play with pattern! Florals, plaids, even adding different textures will really make your photos pop! For this, make sure your colors coordinate well and the patterns are not competing!

If outfit planning is stressing you out, denim is always a safe bet that photographs beautifully and also happens to looks great on everyone. Pull a pair of jeans from your wardrobe and pair with a white shirt, neutral sweaters, or a basic t-shirt.  You could even have mom or sister throw a jean jacket over a holiday dress to tie in the denim look. Don't overthink it, this look can be easily created with clothes you already own!
